About our Association

Our mission is simple:

It’s to keep Texas’s stretch of Route 66 alive, thriving, and ready for generations to enjoy!

We work to:

  • Preserve the history, stories, and iconic landmarks along our 178 miles of the Mother Road.

  • Promote the enjoyment, knowledge, and value of Texas Route 66 for the communities it connects and the travelers who explore it.

  • Protect historic sites, structures, and the small towns that keep the spirit of Route 66 alive for future generations.

What We Have Achieved

Over the years, our Association has made real progress to keep Texas Route 66 alive and well. Here are a few things we’re proud of:

  • Placed Historic Route 66 Signs: Worked with TXDOT to add and replace dozens of Route 66 signs across the Panhandle.

  • Designated Texas Route 66 as a Historic Corridor: Successfully helped secure official recognition for our full stretch of the Mother Road.

  • Restored Iconic Landmarks: Supported restorations like the 1928 Phillips 66 Station and gas pumps in McLean, bringing pieces of Route 66 history back to life.

  • Brought New Connections: Helped bring Tesla charging stations to the U Drop Inn in Shamrock — blending old and new travel for modern roadtrippers.

  • Hosted Major Events: Hosted the 2018 International Route 66 Festival in Shamrock, drawing visitors from around the world to celebrate our piece of the Mother Road.

  • Boosted Local Businesses: Organized a “Paint Party” workday in Adrian to help the MidPoint Cafe & Gift Shop get ready for the season.

  • Partnered with Communities: Built strong relationships with chambers of commerce, EDCs, museums, and businesses to boost Texas tourism and small-town pride.

  • Led Cleanups: Assisted with and organized multiple cleanup days along the Texas stretch of Route 66 to keep our road welcoming for travelers.

  • Shared the Stories: Collected and shared Route 66 stories, photos, and memories that keep its legacy alive for future generations.

  • Helped bring Tesla charging stations to the
    U Drop Inn in Shamrock.

  • Designated the length of Route 66 through Texas as a Historic Corridor.

  • Hosted the International Route 66 Festival in Amarillo in 2011 and in Shamrock in 2018.
